NEVERTHELESS, SHE PERSISTED

 NOV 18 – 21, 2021

Newhart Family Theatre

To celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the enactment of women’s suffrage in America, the Loyola Dance Program Mainstage Dance Concert “Nevertheless, She Persisted” honors women’s perseverance, creativity, and grace on the long road to equal rights in society. As equality between all Americans rises to the forefront of justice and progress, the pieces in the concert amplify women’s voices and continued vulnerabilities.

The concert featured Martha Graham’s tour de force "Scenes from Chronicle" staged by guest artist in residence, Blakeley White-McGuire, and premiers by dance faculty members Amy Wilkinson, “Aphrodite at the Violet Hour,” and Sandra Kaufmann, “Chapters in the Revolution.” Raúl Casasola from Joffrey Ballet adapted the “Huntress Dance” from Sylvia.

Ruth Page award winner, Mei-Kuang Chen choreographed an original ballet based on Chinese women’s suffrage, “Bind, Bound, Bond.”

Through dance performance, we seek to empower our students and advance our culture by showcasing women’s struggles and achievements on the long path to equality.
