Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play

Written by Anne Washburn
Directed by Mark E. Lococo
Oct 19 - 29, 2017
Newhart Family Theatre

A dark comedy infused with music and pop culture, Mr. Burns premiered in 2014 and takes place in a post-apocalyptic landscape over a period of 75 years. To fill the needs of a culture still recovering from near annihilation, a group of survivors use the common memory of The Simpsons episode "Cape Feare" as the basis for a new kind of mythology.

Machinal

Written by Sophie Treadwell
Directed by Ann Shanahan
Feb 22 - March 4, 2018
Newhart Family Theatre

Long regarded as one of the strongest examples of Expressionism on stage, this 1928 play is loosely based on and inspired by the real-life case of convicted and executed murderer Ruth Snyder. Written by Sophie Treadwell, the play deals with feminism, victimization and mental torture exacerbated by yellow journalism.

Cabaret

Lyrics by Fred Ebb, book by Joe Masteroff
Directed by Sarah Gabel
April 5 - 15, 2018
Newhart Family Theatre

Based on a memoir by Christopher Isherwood, this 1966 musical has been revived, changed, and sharpened in the past 50 years, but remains one of the most shocking and moving works about Weimar Germany. Spectacular scenes and brassy songs shine in this show of decadence and power.
